India has resumed steel imports from Vietnam last week after the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) granted certification to Formosa Ha Tinh, Vietnam's leading steel producer, in early June.
A significant amount of steel shipments from Vietnam to India had been delayed over the past few weeks because Vietnamese steel mills had not yet obtained quality certification from BIS. Exporters are required to have BIS quality certification.
This increase in imports from Vietnam has raised concerns for India's domestic steel industry, as profit margins are expected to face further pressure.
