Helios and BlueScope Partner for Green Iron Production

Helios Project, an Israeli clean technology company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with BlueScopeX, a subsidiary of Australian steelmaker BlueScope Steel, to collaborate on the production of green iron.

Under the terms of the MOU, Helios will provide its green iron, produced using its proprietary Helios Cycle technology, to BlueScopeX for testing and evaluation. The initial phase of the collaboration will involve a pilot project starting in 2026.

Helios Cycle technology uses sodium to extract iron from iron ore and other metals, resulting in a production process that emits only oxygen as a byproduct. This makes it a significantly cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional steelmaking methods.

BlueScope Steel has set a goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Decarbonizing the steel industry is a significant challenge due to its reliance on fossil fuels for energy. By partnering with Helios, BlueScope aims to explore innovative technologies that can help it reduce its carbon footprint.

Andrew Garey, CEO of BlueScopeX, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that decarbonizing the steel industry is a crucial task and that partnering with companies like Helios is essential for achieving this goal.

The partnership between Helios and BlueScope Steel is a positive step towards developing sustainable steel production methods. By combining Helios' innovative technology with BlueScope's expertise in steelmaking, the two companies hope to contribute to a more sustainable future for the steel industry.
