Malaysian steel producer Mycron Steel Berhad has announced plans to launch its own green steel products by 2025. The company aims to meet the growing demand for sustainable steel products in various industries, such as automotive, construction, and infrastructure.
Mycron Steel's green steel products will be high-quality and low-carbon, aligning with the increasing focus on reducing emissions. This initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to contribute to a more sustainable future.
To further accelerate its green steel efforts, Mycron Steel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel. Under the terms of the MOU, Mycron Steel will integrate JFE Steel's green steel technology, known as JGreeX™, into its production process. This collaboration will make Mycron Steel the first green steel manufacturer in Malaysia.
While JGreeX™ is expected to initially form a small percentage of Mycron Steel's overall steel production, the global demand for green steel is anticipated to increase significantly in the coming years. Roshan M. Abdullah, CEO of Mycron Steel, has stated that green steel could account for 25 percent of global steel sales tonnage by 2030.
By launching its own green steel products and partnering with JFE Steel, Mycron Steel is positioning itself as a leader in the sustainable steel industry. This move aligns with Malaysia's broader efforts to promote renewable energy and reduce its carbon footprint.
