NMDC Invests in Iron Ore Infrastructure for Production Expansion

India's National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Limited has announced plans to invest approximately $262 million (INR 22 billion) in the fiscal year 2024-25 to construct essential infrastructure for doubling its iron ore production to 100 million metric tons per year by 2030.

The company will lay a slurry pipeline from its Bacheli iron ore complex in Chhattisgarh to Nagarnar, the site of its new 3 million metric ton steel mill. This pipeline will have the capacity to transport 15 million metric tons of iron ore per year.

Additionally, NMDC is developing a beneficiation plant in Bacheli with a capacity of 4 million metric tons per year and a pellet plant in Nagarnar with an initial capacity of 2 million metric tons per year. The pellet plant is planned to be expanded to 6 million metric tons per year in the second phase.

NMDC is also preparing to commence production at its 8 million metric ton reserve coking coal block by December 2024.

These investments are part of NMDC's broader strategy to increase its iron ore production and reduce its environmental impact. The company aims to contribute positively to the communities it serves while ensuring responsible mining practices.
