Brazil Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on Chinese Steel Foils

The Brazilian government has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of various types of carbon steel foils from China.

The Brazilian foreign trade authority, GECEX, approved antidumping rights ranging from $257.97 to $341.28 per metric ton (mt) of the imported product for a period of six months.

The duties apply to zinc-coated, chrome-coated, or chrome oxide-coated foils with a thickness and width exceeding 600 mm. Additionally, they also apply to tin-coated foils of any thickness and width below 600 mm.

GECEX has not disclosed the specific criteria used to determine the antidumping duty values for each type of steel foil.

Furthermore, the Brazilian government has increased the import tax for some steel wires, regardless of their origin, from 12.5 percent to 25 percent.

The imposition of anti-dumping duties on Chinese steel foils aims to protect Brazilian steel producers from unfair competition and level the playing field. By imposing these duties, the Brazilian government seeks to safeguard domestic steel industries and promote fair trade practices.
