Jinnan Steel and Vale Partner to Build Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant in Oman

Chinese steelmaker Jinnan Steel Group has formed a partnership with global mining giant Vale to establish an iron ore beneficiation plant at the Port of Sohar and Free Zone in Oman.

The new facility will play a crucial role in supporting the region's steel industry by providing high-quality iron ore concentrate for pellet and briquette production. This, in turn, will enable the production of mild steel products through the direct reduction steelmaking process.

The Sohar iron ore beneficiation plant is expected to commence operations in mid-2027, with an annual processing capacity of 18 million metric tons of iron ore. The plant will produce 12.6 million metric tons of high-grade iron ore concentrate annually.

Zhang Tianfu, President of Jinnan Steel Group, expressed the company's honor in partnering with Vale and its commitment to leveraging its expertise and resources to support Vale's strategic goals of promoting sustainable mining and cultivating low-carbon solutions.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing the steel industry's sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
