Liberty Częstochowa Declared Bankrupt

Liberty Częstochowa, a subsidiary of UK-based steelmaker Liberty Steel, has officially been declared bankrupt following the rejection of its latest appeal by the Częstochowa court. This final ruling raises concerns about the future of the Polish steel market.

The bankruptcy stems from the company’s financial difficulties, which led to a production halt at the end of last year. Despite submitting a competitive offer to lease the Częstochowa steelworks and filing a second appeal against the initial bankruptcy ruling in July, the court’s decision remains unchanged.

As the bankruptcy proceedings move forward, the trustee is currently negotiating with potential buyers and lessees for the steelworks assets. Ukrainian steelmaker Metinvest, which has significantly reduced its production capacity due to the ongoing war, is one of the companies being considered.

The bankruptcy of Liberty Częstochowa highlights the challenges faced by the global steel industry and the impact of economic factors and geopolitical events on steel production.
