Liberty Steel's Whyalla Blast Furnace to Restart Soon

Sanjeev Gupta, executive chairman of UK-based GFG Alliance, has announced that the blast furnace at Australia-based Liberty Primary Steel's Whyalla steelworks will be fully operational "very shortly."

The furnace, which has been offline for almost six months this year, was initially idled in March due to an uncontrolled iron breakout that damaged its outer shell. It was shut down again last month due to the presence of an "unwanted material" inside the furnace.

Despite these setbacks, Mr. Gupta remains optimistic about the furnace's imminent restart. Although he did not provide a specific date, he indicated that the furnace will be operational within days or weeks.

The blast furnace at Whyalla has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million metric tons. Its restart will be a significant boost to Liberty Steel's operations in Australia and contribute to the country's steel industry.
