Mexico's HDG Consumption Remains Stable, Production Increases

Mexico's apparent consumption of hot-dip galvanized (HDG) sheet remained stable year-over-year in August, totaling 417,000 metric tons (mt). However, it increased by 8.0 percent compared to the previous month, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero).
HDG production in August also saw a slight increase of 0.3 percent year-over-year to 288,000 mt. This marks the fourth consecutive annual increase in HDG production in Mexico.
Imports of HDG decreased by 6.0 percent to 158,000 mt in August compared to the same month last year. Exports also declined by 23.7 percent to 29,000 mt.
For the January-August period, HDG consumption increased by 2.8 percent to 3.07 million mt. Production rose by 1.6 percent to 2.24 million mt. Exports grew by 12.1 percent to 324,000 mt, while imports increased by 7.7 percent to 1.15 million mt.
Overall, the Mexican HDG market has shown steady growth in consumption and production, despite a slight decline in imports and exports in August. The continued increase in HDG production indicates a strong domestic supply base and growing demand for galvanized steel products in Mexico.
