Turkish Steel Producers Hail Anti-Dumping Duties on HRC

Turkish steel producers have expressed their support for the Turkish Ministry of Commerce's decision to impose anti-dumping duties on hot rolled coil (HRC) imports from China, India, Japan, and Russia.

Veysel Yayan, secretary general of the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TÇÜD), and Uğur Dalbeler, vice president of the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (ÇİB), welcomed the decision, stating that it will help address the challenges faced by the Turkish steel industry due to dumped imports from these countries.

Yayan noted that a contraction in the Chinese steel industry, the world's largest producer, leads to a surplus of steel that is exported globally. China's steel exports are expected to reach 120 million mt this year, compared to 94 million mt in 2023.

Dalbeler emphasized that the new anti-dumping duties will increase the country's capacity utilization rate, enabling the Turkish steel industry to become more competitive in export markets. He also highlighted the negative impact of China's aggressive export policy on the global steel market, noting that Turkey has become the only western market for Chinese steel due to protections in Europe and the US.

The decision to impose anti-dumping duties is expected to improve the trade balance for the Turkish steel industry and positively affect other industries that use steel. It may also lead to an increase in the use of local steel products, benefiting the Turkish economy.
