Brazilian mining giant Vale has reported a significant increase in iron ore production during the third quarter of 2024.
The company produced 90.971 million metric tons (mt) of iron ore fines in Q3 2024, a 5.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, pellet production rose by 12.9 percent to 10.363 million mt.
Despite the increase in production, iron ore fines sales declined slightly by 0.5 percent to 69.334 million mt. However, pellet sales surged by 17.8 percent to 10.143 million mt.
Vale's iron ore production during Q3 2024 was the highest for a quarter since Q4 2018. The company has also provided guidance for iron ore fines production in 2024, forecasting a range of 323 to 330 million mt.
When compared to the previous quarter, iron ore production increased by 12.9 percent, pellet production rose by 16.5 percent, and iron ore fines sales increased by 1.2 percent. However, run-of-mine (ROM) sales declined by 2.7 percent.
